Giraffe House
At The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness centre we provide easy access to some of Africa’s wonderful wildlife and bird species. Focusing on African wildlife, Giraffe House aims to provide a place for people to enjoy the outdoors, whilst experiencing and learning about animals and why they are special. An important member of their team is Gerry, our hand reared giraffe. Did you know that giraffes can reach almost 6 m and are therefore the tallest land mammals on earth? Some other animal friends that have been selected to form part of our wildlife educational programs join Gerry.
Lion Park
Drakenstein Lion Park was established in 1998 to provide lions in distress with sanctuary, where they could live in safety, free from abuse and persecution, and be treated with the compassion and respect they deserved.
The Park is situated in the scenic Cape Winelands and comprises of 50 acres of sprawling lion habitat.
The Park is actively involved in improving the quality of life of lions in captivity, locally as well as internationally, either by offering these animals a lifetime home or working in conjunction with other animal welfare organizations to secure a safe future for individual animals in dire need.
Reptiles & Snakes
The Crocodile Farm is a registered breeder and thus the dammed domicile of this Nile reptile. With our crocodile tours our expert guide will show you around a captive-bred bask of more than 200 crocs, ranging from hatchlings to adults. You’ll walk on ramp ways spanning four large dams, all the while learning more about Africa’s largest reptile. You might even get a chance to view these fascinating predators in their underwater environment from our viewing cabin.
Our indoor, self-guided ‘Snakes in Transit’ snake exhibition features an impressive collection of local and foreign snakes. The snakes are housed in roomy enclosures fronted with safety glass. The clearly-signposted snake exhibition includes loads of information about our scaled brethren.
A touch opportunity with an ambassador snake is available under supervision of our well trained guide.
Birds of Prey
A wildlife rehabilitation, conservation, education and eco-tourism centre based at a historic Wine Farm. Enjoy personal encounters & spectacular interactive flying shows. Family-friendly fun for all.
