Day 1 – Greater Kruger National Park
As we depart from Johannesburg, we head eastward, traversing the coalfields of Mpumalanga. Our route today retraces the paths of ancient trade routes leading to the Lowveld and the Kruger National Park. Later in the day, you’ll have the chance to participate in an optional Sundowner Game Drive.
Day 2 – Kruger National Park
This morning, we start our day early by entering the Kruger National Park for an entire day of thrilling wildlife observation. The park’s rich biodiversity offers us numerous chances to witness remarkable animal encounters, including Africa’s renowned Big 5. Serving as the pride of South African national parks, Kruger boasts an astonishing variety of life forms: 336 tree species, 49 fish species, 34 amphibian species, 114 reptile species, 507 bird species and 147 mammal species. Our Game Drive within the park will be conducted in an open-sided 4×4 vehicle, providing an immersive and exciting experience.
Day 3 – Kruger National Park
Today, we’ll commence our journey a bit later as we make our way to the enchanting Panorama Route, a short distance away. This route runs along the escarpment, dividing the central plateau from the low-lying bushveld of the Kruger region, promising us a day filled with breathtaking scenery. Our itinerary includes visits to the remarkable attractions of Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels and God’s Window before we return to our camp in the late afternoon.
Day 4 – Kruger to Eswatini
Accompanied by a steaming cup of coffee and traditional rusks, we embark on a journey through Kruger en route to Eswatini (former Swaziland). Leaving the southern boundary of the park behind, we shortly reach the Eswatini border. This afternoon’s route takes us through the captivating landscapes of mountains and forests within this landlocked kingdom. Our ultimate destination for the day lies in the Ezulwini Valley, located just south of the capital city, Mbabane.
Day 5 – Eswatini – Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary
The Mlilwane sanctuary, covering a modest 4560 hectares, allows for extensive periods of independent exploration since it lacks a significant presence of dangerous wildlife. This morning, our guide will take us on a nature walk along the “Nature Trail,” offering insights into the historical and environmental aspects of this area.
Day 6 – Eswatini – St Lucia
We bid farewell to Eswatini and cross back into South Africa, continuing our journey southward into the heart of Zululand, a region once ruled by the formidable King Shaka, who brought together the Zulu clans.
Day 7 – Hluhluwe – Umfolozi Game Reserve / iSimangaliso Wetland Park
Today we embark on an early game drive in the nearby Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, a sanctuary that plays a crucial role in protecting the endangered rhinoceros. While the rhinoceros are the park’s most renowned residents, it’s also home to numerous other species, including the coveted Big-5 that we all aspire to spot. After returning to our accommodation for a siesta, we’ll prepare for an afternoon boat cruise along the St. Lucia estuary.
Day 8 – Kwa Zulu Natal Coast – Durban
We’ll leave St. Lucia and journey to the city of Durban, where your tour will conclude upon our arrival.
